I turned down a $12k raise to keep my side hustle going and my coworkers think I lost my mind
Two years ago my boss offered me a promotion to shift lead with a $12k raise, and I said no because it meant 55 hour weeks and zero time for my lawn care business. Everyone at the shop told me I was throwing away free money, but I had 14 regular clients by then pulling in about $1,800 a month on Saturdays. I took the pay cut in title instead and kept my weekends, and this spring I finally hit the point where the lawn money matched my old paycheck. The guys who took lead spots are still there grinding overtime and I run my own route now. Curious if anyone else here has turned down a promotion on purpose to protect their exit plan.
