The $2,100 web design gig that died because I sent the invoice before the kickoff call
Back in March I landed my first real freelance client, a dentist in Phoenix who wanted a 6 page site for $2,100. I got so excited that I sent the invoice and deposit request the same night he said yes, before we ever talked scope or timeline. He went quiet for 4 days and then replied that the upfront ask felt pushy and he was going with someone he "already trusted." I lost the gig and spent two evenings kicking myself over it. Now I always do a quick call first and split payments 50/50, one at kickoff and one at launch. Has anyone else blown a deal by moving too fast on the money side?
