Ripped out 6 feet of drywall to find a leak that was just a loose pipe joint

Went to patch a small water stain in my hallway closet last Tuesday and ended up tearing out half the wall before I spotted the actual issue, turns out it was a hand tightened fitting from the previous owner. Anyone else ever go way past the original scope of a fix and just kept going out of stubbornness?

God I hate when that happens lol. I once went in to fix a squeaky stair tread and ended up rebuilding the whole bottom landing because I found the joist was rotted out. What worked for me was just forcing myself to stop at the end of the day, even if I was mid-mess, and take a step back to plan the next step instead of just ripping more out. Also, I started buying those cheap little inspection cameras that plug into your phone, saved my butt a bunch of times. That loose fitting sucks but at least you found it before it got worse, right?
