I finally wrecked my car because I trusted the GPS too much

Last Tuesday I was driving back from a job interview in Tacoma and my GPS told me to take this narrow side road to skip traffic. I figured it knew better than me since I rarely drive that part of town. Big mistake. The road turned into gravel, then mud, and my front wheels just sunk right in. I spent two hours waiting for a tow truck in the rain while my car sat half in a ditch. The tow cost me $180 and I still missed the follow-up call from the interviewer. Everyone keeps saying I should have just stuck to the main highway and accepted the extra 15 minutes. But honestly, I think the GPS had bad data that nobody updates, and I was dumb for not checking the route first on my phone. Has anyone else had a total failure trusting navigation apps over their own common sense on a simple drive?
