My boss said 'you're not a mind reader' and I finally stopped trying to guess what people wanted

After 3 years of delivering projects people didn't actually ask for, my manager in Denver flat out told me to just ask for the exact specs up front, and now I save about 4 hours a week by sending a simple checklist email before I start anything, does anyone else have that fear of looking dumb by asking questions?
