Vent: I tried to fix a leaky sink with plumber's putty and made it way worse

The cold water line under my kitchen sink in my apartment was dripping a steady drop every 10 seconds, so I smeared a bunch of that white putty all over the joint. It held for about a day before the whole connection blew apart at 3 AM and flooded the cabinet. Has anyone actually had luck with that stuff, or is it just a trap for people who don't want to call a pro?

That putty is really for drains and faucets, not compression fittings on supply lines. You needed a wrench to tighten the nut, or maybe a new ferrule.

Tightened mine with pliers and it worked fine.
