I just realized I was supposed to preheat the air fryer this whole time

So I've been using my air fryer almost every day for about 8 months now. I bought it at Target after my roommate moved out and took the toaster oven. Last Tuesday I was making some frozen chicken tenders and my neighbor Lori came over to borrow salt. She saw me toss them in and asked if I preheated. I laughed and said no, it heats up fast. She looked at me like I was crazy and said the bag says 400 degrees for 12 minutes but if you don't preheat it's more like 15 or 16. I went back and checked my old photos of food I made and everything was always a little pale on one side. Now I preheat for 3 minutes before putting anything in and the difference is huge. Crispy all over, not just on top. Has anyone else been skipping the preheat step without knowing?
