TIL you need to preheat the air fryer for frozen fries but skip it for fresh ones, and that one thing changed my results
I made frozen fries in my air fryer for 6 months straight and they always came out pale and soggy in the middle. Then a coworker in Portland told me she always runs hers empty for 3 minutes at 400 before adding frozen stuff, and the fries finally got that crispy outside I wanted. But when I tried that same preheat with fresh cut potato wedges, they burnt on the edges before the inside cooked. So now I preheat for anything frozen but just toss fresh veggies and potato in straight from a cold basket. The frozen stuff needs that hot start to push out the water fast, fresh stuff releases its own moisture and steams a bit first. Has anyone else run into this with other frozen foods like nuggets or fish sticks?
