Pro tip: I stopped torquing by feel after a loose brake line on a 737 got me written up
Fifteen years ago I could tighten a B-nut on a hydraulic line and just know it was right, no wrench needed. These days I won't touch one without a calibrated torque wrench and the AMM open on my tablet. The change came in 2016 after a flap actuator line I hand-tightened started seeping at 3,000 psi during a gate check in Dallas. My lead found it, and the look he gave me said more than the write-up ever did. Now I spend an extra 90 seconds pulling the spec and logging the value, and I sleep better on my days off. Anyone else carry a torque wrench on every job now, or am I just getting paranoid in my old age?
