Pro tip: the $12 headlamp clip trick that saved me 20 minutes on a fuel pump swap last Tuesday
Last Tuesday I was doing a fuel pump swap on a King Air at a hangar in Ogden, and I kept dropping my inspection mirror into the wing root because I had no free hand. After the third time, this older A&P named Ray (been turning wrenches 31 years) walked over and clipped a cheap headlamp to the fuel line with one of those magnetic base clips, then bent the head down at like 45 degrees. Suddenly I had hands free light right where I needed it instead of holding a flashlight in my teeth like an idiot. Whole job went from what felt like a two hour crawl to about an hour and forty. Has anyone else rigged up little lights like this in tight spots, or do you all just bite the bullet and buy one of those $200 snake lights? I'm wondering if there's a smarter clip setup for the baggage area panels since those screws are a nightmare to see.
