That $600 torque wrench I bought off a truck? Junk after 2 months

Back in 2015 I was doing line maintenance in Tulsa. A Snap-on truck rolled through and I got suckered into a fancy digital torque wrench. Paid $600 cash. Felt great for about 8 weeks. Then it started beeping wrong on a flap actuator job. Recalibrated it twice, still off by 12 foot-pounds. Had to redo the whole job with a manual beam wrench from the shop. Took me 3 extra hours and a lot of cussing. Truck guy never came back to that base either. Anyone else get burned buying specialty tools off the truck instead of going through an authorized rep?

And that's the thing with the fancy stuff. Same happens with the big box store's extended warranties on appliances. They sell you the piece of mind for the price of the appliance itself, then when the compressor goes out at 14 months, they say it's "normal wear." The truck guys and the big stores, they don't care about the long game. They just want the sale today. A simple tool that does its one job and does it right for years beats a shiny one that needs an app and a firmware update any day. You got burned, but now you know. That knowledge is worth more than the six hundred you lost.
