Vent: Found out my torque wrench was 15 ft-lbs off after a routine calibration check

I sent my old Snap-on in for calibration last week and the report showed it was reading 15 ft-lbs high on the low end. How do you guys even trust your tools after something like that?

Honestly I get why you're mad but I think people make too big a deal out of calibration numbers. 15 ft-lbs high on the low end sounds bad but if you know about it you can just adjust your technique a little. Like if you need 50 ft-lbs you crank to feel like 35 and you're good. Half the guys I know have never even checked their torque wrenches and their cars still run fine. Who's to say your car even noticed that extra 15 ft-lbs on a random bolt?

Honestly, the "just adjust your technique" thing is insane to me. 15 ft-lbs is a huge miss, that's not something you can just "feel out" on a critical bolt like a head stud or rod cap. If you're torquing something that actually matters, guessing wrong can total an engine.
