Quit my book club over a $15 reading list fight

Joined a neighborhood book club last fall, 8 people. We met at a cafe in Evanston. The pick for March was a 700 page historical novel. I said it was too long for casual readers. One member, Janet, said that showed I wasnt serious about literature. She called me lazy in front of everyone. I paid my $15 dues that night and left. No one texted me after. Was that too quick? Has anyone else walked away from a hobby group over one rude comment?
