Walked out of my shift at a pizza place in Reno over a $12 tip split

I was working at a pizza place on Virginia Street in Reno and had been there about 8 months when the owner changed the tip policy on a Friday. He said our pooled tips would now get split with the kitchen, which cut my take from about $90 to $40 that night. I asked him twice to show me the math on the $12 I was short and he just shrugged and said "that's how it is now." So I took off my apron, set it on the counter, and walked out mid-rush. Anyone else bail over a pay change like that or did I just burn a decent job?
