Found out my panel firmware was 3 years out of date

Was troubleshooting a false alarm loop on a DSC system last Tuesday. Checked the panel firmware and it was from 2019. Surprised me how many installers just never update after initial setup. How often do you guys check firmware on older installs?

Exactly the same thing happened to me on a Vista panel last month. Found firmware from 2018 on a system that was supposedly "serviced" every year. Checked all my own installs after that and realized most of them were way behind too.

Started keeping a log on my phone after that happened to me. Made a simple checklist with dates for every panel I touch and set reminders to check for firmware updates every three months. Saved me a few times when a newer version fixed some bug I hadnt even noticed yet. Now I always double check before I leave a site, even if the customer says it was just serviced.
