That panel firmware update that took 9 hours for a 20 minute job

Customer in Nashua had a DSC panel throwing false alarms every other night. I figured it was a bad zone, but a quick remote check showed the firmware was three versions behind and the app updates kept failing at 47 percent. I ended up sitting on their basement floor with a laptop and a USB stick, manually pushing each version one at a time. Took me from 9 in the morning until 6 at night, and the actual fix was a loose ground wire I should have checked first. Has anyone else burned a full day on a firmware chain before finding a simple physical fault?
