My quiet office takeover after I started saying less
For years I was the guy in meetings who talked first and talked a lot. Then last March I had a project go sideways in Columbus because I kept pushing my own ideas before hearing the client out. I decided to shut up for two weeks and just listen, take notes, and ask one question at the end of each meeting. The change was shocking. People started coming to my desk with problems they used to hide from me, and my manager even asked if I was feeling okay. It turns out my big mouth was drowning out the actual issues on the floor. I went from being the loud guy to the one who gets pulled into the decision chats. Has anyone else noticed that going quiet actually gets you more respect than proving you're the smartest person in the room?
