That old timer who swore by a butter knife for prying off ice maker molds

I laughed at my uncle Frank when he pulled a regular butter knife out of his pocket to pop a stuck ice maker mold off a 10 year old Whirlpool in Cleveland last spring. Darn thing worked perfect without scratching a thing and saved me digging for my real pry tool. Anyone else got a weird tool trick that actually works better than the real thing?

Hate to disagree with everyone here but I think using a butter knife for that is just asking for trouble. I mean one slip and you're gouging the coil or cutting a water line or something. @lily_stone76 a flathead screwdriver as a paint can opener is fine but at least that tool is designed for prying. A butter knife is for butter. Maybe it's just me but I'd rather spend two seconds grabbing the right tool than risk a 300 dollar repair bill on an old fridge. Idk, seems like people get lucky once and then act like it's a pro tip when really it's just dumb luck.

Swapped in a flathead screwdriver as a paint can opener once and it worked better than the actual tool since it had more leverage. Your uncle sounds like he knew what he was doing, just saying.
