The customer who talked me out of replacing her dryer motor
Had a call last week in Tacoma for a dryer that was humming but not spinning. I was ready to quote her $280 for a new motor, standard fix in my book. She asked if I'd ever tried tapping the motor with a screwdriver handle while it was running, said her dad did that for 30 years. I laughed it off but gave it a shot since she was insistent. Thing spun right up and has been fine for 5 days now, turns out the centrifugal switch was just sticking. Made me wonder how many motors I've swapped out that only needed a nudge and a clean. Has anyone else had a customer's weird hack actually save them a sale?

Think how many people tossed out dryers over this same cheap fix.
