A climber with 22 years in the canopy said my pruning cuts were leaving stubs, and it's been bugging me for a week
I was doing a crown reduction on a silver maple in Des Moines and he pointed out my cuts were a half inch past the branch collar, which he said invites decay. I've been cutting the same way for 6 years and nobody ever flagged it before. Anyone got a good way to feel out the collar without staring at it forever?
