My climbing gear failure scare in the rain last Tuesday
I was up in a white oak in Poughkeepsie doing a removal, and my friction hitch basically gave out halfway down my first descent. The rope was wet from the drizzle and the hitch cord was older than I thought, it just slipped through my hands. I caught myself on a lanyard but my heart was pounding for ten minutes after. Do you all replace your hitch cords on a strict schedule, or do you go by feel and visual checks?
