Finally stopped using heat shrink on every splice after a senior tech told me it was overkill on shielded twisted pair
He showed me how to do a proper T-wrap termination instead, and I saved about 45 minutes on a 429 bus harness job last Tuesday, anyone else switch methods and notice a big time difference?

Hold on - a T-wrap on a 429 bus harness? That's a pretty specific application (and I've seen some guys do it wrong and create more noise than they fix). You might wanna double-check that the senior tech wasn't just showing you a shortcut for a low-speed bus.
