Lead tech at DFW said he stopped signing off jobs he didn't touch, and it made me look at my own logbook
I was grabbing coffee at the shop near DFW last Thursday and ran into a lead tech I used to work with. He said about 3 years ago he started refusing to sign off any job he didn't personally put hands on, even if the other guy swore it was done. His exact words were "my name goes on it, my butt goes on the line." I went back and flipped through my own sign offs from the past 6 months and counted 14 I stamped without eyeballing the work myself. Nothing blew up, but it got me thinking about how easy it is to rubber stamp stuff when you're slammed. Curious if you guys sign off work you didn't personally touch, and if so how do you cover yourself?
