Old instructor said check the bonding strap first, he was right

Back in A&P school my instructor kept yelling about checking bonding straps before diving into the avionics bus, and I always figured that was just busywork. Last Thursday a dash 8 came in with weird static on the HF and I spent two hours chasing the antenna coupler before remembering his rule. Ten minutes later I found a corroded strap under the tailcone. Anyone else got a simple check that saves them from rabbit holes?
