Took me 6 hours to figure out the water source on the Eagle Rock Loop because I kept walking past the side trail
I hiked 2 miles past the only spring on the whole western half of the Eagle Rock Loop in Arkansas because the spur path was hidden behind a blown-down pine, and I only found it after backtracking twice and asking a ridge runner who laughed and said everybody misses it the first time, so how do you all mark side trails like that in your notes?
I once walked right past a cairn the size of a washing machine because I was busy staring at my feet, so you are doing better than me. My trick now is to count my steps from a landmark, like 200 paces past the creek crossing then look left. Phone pics of the turn help too, even if the tree that was there is long gone. That ridge runner laughing at you was just hazing you into the club, we have all been there.
