I finally tried fermented feed after 2 years of 'that's gross' and my hens are OBSESSED
Last month I caved and mixed a batch of feed with water and a little whey in a bucket on my porch in Ohio. I left it out for 3 days and honestly the smell hit me when I opened it, almost backed out. But my girls went for it like it was scratch grain and they've been laying bigger eggs ever since. I even have one older hen who stopped laying in June and she's back to giving me 4 eggs a week. The only downside is the summer heat made it bubble up fast, so I'll probably move that bucket into the shade. Has anyone else seen a real bump in egg size or shell thickness with fermented feed, or was it just my flock? I'm still half convinced it's a placebo and they just like the texture.
