Just realized my $18 egg turner was pointless after a guy at the Monroe swap meet showed me his hens do it themselves
I was at the Monroe swap meet last Saturday buying feed when this old guy with 40 hens told me he stopped turning eggs by hand 6 years ago and his hatch rate actually went up. I ran 22 eggs in my incubator his way, just letting the broody girls handle it, and got 19 chicks versus 14 the batch before. Is it the breed or am I just lucky with my setup?
Stopped turning mine about 3 seasons back after my neighbor kept telling me I was wasting my time. Went from maybe 70 percent hatches to like 85, and the chicks come out stronger too. Feels good knowing I was making extra work for nothing all those years.
