Stop giving chicks medicated feed just because it's cheaper

Tbh I lost 3 birds last spring before my vet in Fort Worth pointed out I was dosing healthy chicks with amprolium for zero reason, and the medicated stuff was actually stunting their growth. Why are we treating every flock like it has coccidiosis before we even see one symptom, and has anyone else noticed better hatch rates after switching to plain starter?
