The feed store guy who refused to sell me chick starter

Drove 40 miles to Tractor Supply in Boise last spring and this old timer at the counter talked me out of buying medicated starter for my brooder, said plain was fine for the first 3 weeks. Turns out he was right and I saved about 18 bucks, but has anyone else had a clerk talk them out of a product and actually be correct?
