Vent: the $7 rubber egg I used to catch my coop's egg eater
Last month something in my 8 hen flock up in Tacoma was breaking and eating eggs almost every morning, and I could not figure out which bird it was. I read about dropping a fake ceramic egg in the nest box, but instead of buying a real one I filled a normal egg with plaster of paris for about $7 total and let it sit a few days. Sure enough, one of my barred rocks started pecking at it, got a beak full of plaster, and hasn't touched a real egg since. Has anyone else used the dummy egg trick, and did it stick or did the habit come back later?
