My miter saw fence was off by 1/16th for 2 years, I finally fixed it with a feeler gauge

Installed a new fence on Tuesday after checking with a $10 dial indicator, turns out the factory bolts were torqued uneven. Has anyone else found their saw cutting true after adjusting the fence bolts with a torque wrench instead of just eyeballing it?

Did you ever check the fence with a square and just shim it? That's what I always did, figured close enough was good enough. But last year I finally picked up a decent dial indicator after fighting with a cut that kept drifting, and yeah, it was the bolt tension all along. I torqued mine to spec and it's been dead nuts ever since, which honestly surprised me. I used to think torque wrenches were for engines and car stuff, not woodworking, but now I grab mine for anything with a fixed fence or table. It's a pain to do right, but it sure beats chasing a 1/16th error for years.
