Serious question, why did my workbench go from level to rocking in 4 days?

I built it out of 2x4s on a Saturday, and by Wednesday the whole thing wobbled every time I pushed on the vise. Turned out I only put screws in one side of each leg and the wood shrank just enough in my garage to let it shift. Am I supposed to add braces on both sides or did I just pick wet lumber?
