Pro tip: the guy at my credit union talked me out of a broker account in 20 minutes flat
I walked into a credit union branch in Boise last month fully ready to move my savings to a broker because everyone online says banks are a rip off. The loan officer, Dave, didn't try to sell me anything. He just pulled up a sheet and showed me my own numbers, that my bank savings was paying 0.4% while his credit union was at 4.1% on a basic savings account, no minimum, no hoops. What got me was when he said 'why would you pay a broker a fee to park cash when we'll pay you the same rate for free?' I sat there for a second because I had no answer. I always assumed brokers were automatically better for everything, but he pointed out brokers make sense for investing, not for money I might need in 3 months. I opened the savings account that afternoon and left the broker stuff for my retirement. Has anyone here actually compared the fee sheet side by side before picking one? Curious what made it click for you.
