That $2,300 bank mixup switched me from bank-only to fee-only broker

For years I kept everything at my local credit union because it felt safe and simple. Then last March I moved $12,000 from savings to checking to cover a contractor, and the teller accidentally set it as a wire transfer to the wrong account. Took 6 weeks and three branch visits to get it reversed, and they still charged me a $35 fee. A friend who uses a fee-only broker showed me their monthly statement with every cost listed plain as day. That one mess pushed me to compare what my bank actually charges versus what a broker charges for trades and transfers. Now I split my money, keeping the emergency fund at the bank but investing through a flat-fee brokerage. Has anyone else had a bank error that made them rethink where they park larger amounts?
