I used to pay my rent with a money order at the corner store until a $1,400 mixup at my bank in Toledo
For about 2 years I bought a money order every first of the month at the deli near my place and handed it to my landlord. Last April my bank put a 5 day hold on my paycheck deposit and the money order bounced, so the deli charged me $15 and my landlord hit me with a $75 late fee. Turns out the teller at my credit union told me a plain check from my account clears same day for rent and costs nothing. I switched to just writing a check and I have not paid a single fee since. Anyone else still buying money orders out of habit, or did you drop them too?
