DAE stop using grease and just hit the chain with an old toothbrush and kerosene
Had a customer bring in a 9 speed commuter last Tuesday with a chain so caked in black gunk it wouldn't even shift past gear 4. I used to soak everything in degreaser for an hour, but on a whim I grabbed a jar of kerosene from the shop in Grand Rapids and scrubbed it with a toothbrush for 10 minutes. That chain came out looking brand new and the derailleur actually moved again without me touching a single cable. I've now done this on 6 bikes this month and every one shifted clean after. Am I crazy for ditching the fancy degreaser or does anyone else just run kerosene and a brush?
