Unpopular take on The Office - the later seasons are better

I was at a friend's house in Austin last Saturday and everyone was ranting about how the show died after Michael left. I actually think seasons 8 and 9 have more rewatch value because the characters stop being caricatures and actually grow. Am I the only one who prefers the Robert California era?

So my buddy Mark, he works at this tiny IT firm in Ohio, and for years he swore the show was dead after Michael left. Then he got stuck house sitting for his boss one week and had nothing to do but watch the whole series again from season 1. He called me up like three days later all excited about how he finally noticed all the character growth in the later seasons. He said he used to hate Andy but now he actually feels bad for him and thinks his whole arc in season 8 is super well done. And he couldn't stop talking about Robert California's weird monologue about the "kung fu" of the office. I guess sometimes you just need to give a show a second chance with fresh eyes.
