Guy at the hammer-in told me to quit chasing perfect tongs and just make 5 pairs this weekend
He said new smiths spend 20 hours on one pair of tongs trying to make them pretty instead of spending 20 hours making five pairs that actually work. I tried it and pairs 4 and 5 were better than anything I'd forged before, and the first two just went in the scrap bin where they belonged. Anyone else had a mentor push quantity over perfection like that?
