Serious question, who else has lost a game night to one missing piece?

We sat down Saturday for a 4 player game of Catan and the robber was just gone, so we spent 25 minutes digging through the couch and a junk drawer before giving up and using a Lego guy. Turns out my nephew pocketed it at Easter and it turned up in his toy bin last night. How do you all keep small pieces from vanishing, do baggies really work or do you just buy a spare copy?
