Had a week where EVERY joint I welded came out textbook perfect

Last month I was working on a feedwater heater at a paper mill in Savannah. For whatever reason, Monday through Wednesday I hit every root pass and cap dead smooth with zero grinding needed. That NEVER happens to me, I'm usually chasing slag or fighting fit-up issues. My foreman even walked by on Tuesday and just nodded without saying a word, which is basically a compliment in this trade. Then Thursday hit and I blew through three tacks in a row on a 2 inch tube sheet. Has anyone else had those random perfect streaks that make no sense?

Read somewhere that muscle memory just peaks randomly like that.

Muscle memory is a weird thing, but I think it's more about your brain finally getting out of its own way. You spend all that time fighting bad habits and overthinking, then one day you just let your body do what it's been practicing. Then your brain shows back up and screws everything up again. For me, the perfect streaks usually happen when I stop caring so much about each bead and just trust the puddle. The second I start analyzing why it's going good, I might as well pack up for the day.
