Old timer told me I was burning through tungsten too fast

Guy with 30 years in said to drop my amperage by 20 amps and slow my travel speed on that 3/8 plate job last Monday. I tried it and my tungsten life doubled and the welds looked way cleaner. Any of you guys have a similar tip that saved you money on consumables?

Heard a buddy at the fab shop tried cranking his gas up a few CFH and it fixed his porosity problems on dirty steel. Said he went through way less tips and cups after that.

@john_murphy your buddy is dead right. Bumped my gas up 5 CFH on rusted plate last month. Total game changer. Porosity basically vanished and my consumables lasted way longer. That extra coverage really keeps the weld puddle protected on grimy metal. Found out the hard way after burning through like eight tips in a week. Dialed it up and the problem stopped cold. More gas just gives you that room to work without sucking in air. Saves money in the long run too.
