TIL a 30 year boilermaker at the Local 374 hall talked me out of my old tube rolling habit
I rolled tubes the same way for 9 years, always snugging them down in one pass and moving on. After a job in Hammond, an older hand named Ray watched me work and told me to stop and do it in two stages, half torque then full, because one pass loads the tube sheet unevenly. I tried it on the next 40 tubes and my leak checks came back clean the first time, which almost never happens for me. Any of you run two passes on your rolls, or is one pass good enough for you?
