I stopped picking the 400 page doorstopper for book club and I'm not going back
Honestly, our group in Denver has been burned by long picks so many times that I made an executive call last cycle and put two choices on the table: a 380 page family saga or a slim 190 page novel about a mail carrier. I pushed hard for the short one and we went with it. Tbh the discussion was the best we've had in a year, everyone actually finished it, and we spent an hour arguing about the ending instead of half the meeting catching people up. Now two members are calling it too easy and want the big book back, so how do you all balance a real debate against people simply not reading the pick?
