My sister said our sci-fi picks all have the same guy hero, and now I can't unsee it
So my sister joined our Thursday book club back in March and after her third meeting she hits us with "every single book you guys pick has a lone dude saving the world." I got defensive at first because we read 14 books last year and I honestly thought we had range. Then I went back through the list and 11 of them had the exact same shape, one guy, big threat, he fixes it. We read kinda different stuff on paper, space station, desert planet, future city, but the skeleton under all of it was the same. I brought it up at the next meeting and two people got mad at me like I was the one who said it. So now I made a rule that we rotate who picks and the picker has to name one thing the book does that's different from the last one. Curious if other clubs track this stuff or if you just vibe it out.
