Our book club spent 40 minutes fighting about a plot hole that was explained on page 12
We met at Dana's place in Tucson last Thursday to talk about The Overstory and somehow got stuck arguing about why one character never called her brother back. I finally flipped to page 12 and read the line out loud where she says her phone got shut off. The room went quiet and then everyone laughed, because we had all been talking over each other for 40 minutes about a thing that was right there in black and white. Now I want to know, does your group have someone who's supposed to keep everyone on track, or does it just sort of happen?
Man who cares if there's a "person" assigned to keep things on track? That sounds like homework. Our group just argues until someone gets annoyed enough to look it up, and honestly the arguing is half the fun. Forty minutes of yelling about a phone bill sounds like a great meeting to me.
