Question about how our book club stopped arguing about picks after Dana said one sentence
Our book club in Sacramento has been meeting for 3 years and every month we burned 20 minutes just fighting over which book was next. Last month Dana said our picks were boring because we kept voting on vibes instead of a theme. So we tried something new, each person brings one book tied to a single theme and we draw names from a hat. This month the theme was siblings and we got 7 totally different books instead of the same 3 bestsellers. Our meeting ran 15 minutes shorter and nobody sulked in the corner. We also started writing one sentence on a card about why we picked it, so the pitch takes 10 seconds. Has anyone else tried a theme or a draw to kill the pick fight, or does your club still do open nominations?
