The trick to arguing at book club isn't winning, it's asking one specific question
Our club has met at the same library in Toledo for 11 years, and I noticed the fights only got bad once we all decided every meeting had to end with a winner. Last month we read a 380 page novel and the talk turned into six people talking over each other about the ending, until Dana just asked, what page did you start feeling that way? Everyone went quiet and then went back through the book. Now the loudest person in the room is usually the one with the least to point at. Does your group have a rule that actually keeps things civil, or does it just happen by luck?
