Update: How my book club stopped fighting over 'The Underground Railroad'
We used to debate books like it was a competition... someone had to be right and someone had to be wrong. Last month after three meetings in a row ending in tense silence, I suggested we each just share one moment that stuck with us instead. No arguments, no trying to prove a point. Now we actually listen to each other and it feels more like a real conversation. Has anyone else tried ditching the debate format for something simpler?

The "share one moment that stuck with us" idea is the key there. When people focus on a single detail they noticed, it takes the pressure off having to defend a whole opinion about the book. That shift from winning an argument to just describing what you saw makes a huge difference in how people treat each other.
