Appreciation post: linen thread beat waxed cord for me on a 400 page rebind
Six months back I rebound a 400 page hymnal for a neighbor here in Boise, and I grabbed waxed cord because that is what I always use on small jobs. The signatures kept slipping and the whole spine felt loose, so I tore it apart and redid it with plain linen thread and a kettle stitch. The difference was night and day, the pages sat tight and the book opened flat right away. I always figured wax was wax until I saw how much cleaner the linen gripped the paper. Anyone else switch thread for bigger books, or am I late to this one?
