Pro tip: That $200 'waterproof' jacket I bought is a total lie

I dropped $200 on a fancy hiking jacket last spring because the tag said 'fully waterproof.' First real rainstorm in the Poconos and I was soaked through in 20 minutes. Turns out the DWR coating wears off after like 3 wears if you look at it wrong. I tried reapplying it with a spray-on treatment from REI that cost another $15, and it still leaked at the seams. Has anyone else dealt with this nonsense, or is there actually a brand out there that holds up for more than a season?

I mean, washing it with Nikwax actually fixed that for me.
